ASEAN Consumer Protection launches upgraded website

ASEAN , 20 June 2022

JAKARTA, 20 June 2022 – As means to enhance consumer empowerment and strengthen consumer protection enforcement in the region, the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP) has upgraded and added additional functions to their website.

The new features include the ASEAN Online Consumer Complaints Function and the Learning Management System, which will be launched at the 3rd ASEAN Consumer Conference, to be held virtually on 28 June.

Since its official launch in 2012, the ACCP website has been the main point of reference for information pertaining to ASEAN’s Consumer Protection work.

Up-to-date information on consumer protection developments at both the national and regional level, updated consumer protection policies, resources and publications developed by the ACCP, and information customised to consumers, businesses and regulators needs that are updated in real-time, to enable stakeholders to stay current on consumer protection developments.

The website also hosts the ASEAN Official or Voluntary Recalled Portal which is a platform to notify consumers on recalled or banned products in ASEAN Member States (AMS) that would build higher consumer confidence of transacting in the region. The portal has been integrated into the OECD Product Recalls Portal in real-time.

The ASEAN Online Consumer Complaints Function enables consumers to file a complaint for products purchased from any AMS. The complaints are then referred to the national consumer protection authority of the AMS to facilitate redress. The complaint can be tracked by consumers until the complaint has been resolved.

Meanwhile, the Learning Management System contains five modules that are intended to enhance the skills and knowledge of stakeholders on selected consumer protection topics.

For more information on ASEAN Consumer Protection work, the ACCP Website can be accessed through the following link: www.aseanconsumer.org.

The upgrading of the ACCP website is supported by the “Consumer Protection in ASEAN” (PROTECT) project, which is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) of Germany.
